District 24 & the Economy
I will work hard and bring the energy needed to appropriate the federal aid back to this district in order to fund necessary projects and create desperately needed jobs here in the Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.
Working towards an international solution to climate change will be a critical issue in the coming years, and I believe that we can find solutions that cut greenhouse gases and create green jobs in sustainable energy across this district.
Unlike “career politicians”, I don’t just want to talk about putting people back to work. As a small business owner, I have learned that growing sectors like green energy and internet technology are fundamental to sound economic growth. It is that kind of private sector experience and willingness to look beyond ideology that we need in Washington to get our economy back on track and create jobs right here in the 24th Congressional District.
Congress needs to work with President Obama, and I know in order to succeed we need to focus on four key principles for an economic recovery package:
1) The plan needs to provide significant tax relief for middle class families.
2) The plan must ensure that the district receives its fair share of tax dollars back from Washington so we can hold the line on property taxes and continue to improve education.
3) The plan must include investment in our region’s infrastructure so we can jump-start our economy now.
4) The plan must hold career politicians and Wall Street accountable for every tax dollar spent, unlike the bailout.
Career politicians in Sacramento and Washington have failed us. Instead of working together to find ways to create jobs and lower property taxes, they have put partisanship and ideology first.
I believe in providing tax credits to companies that create jobs right here in the 24th District. This includes investing in renewable energy to create well-paying green jobs and break our dependence on foreign oil, and working to make our region a center for technology and innovation.
In addition, we must make sure that corporate executives are held accountable when they receive taxpayer bailout money. That is why I support President Obama’s plan to place limits on executive compensation for corporations receiving bailout funds.
